Testimonials

Blean Primary School has been using DPiL for a number of years, and we consistently achieve excellent results above national averages. The clear progression of the programme enables our pupils to become confident readers and parents have recognised how recent changes in early reading and phonics have had a positive impact on children, with them being keener to read and share their knowledge at home. Nina is always on hand for support and guidance and regularly updates her resources. The training package offered is bespoke and tailored to our school and phases, alongside this, the detailed planning, resources, and assessment tools enable a consistent approach taught with skill and enthusiasm.

DPiL has had a transformative impact on the writing in our school. The focus on drama and oral rehearsal engages all pupils and particularly supports the high number of SEN and EAL learners we have. Children are able to apply a full range of grammatical skills that are weaved throughout the units and take ownership of their work through regular opportunities to edit and improve; they are proud of the high quality writing they produce!

Nina is an invaluable resource in planning and delivering our English curriculum and supports our teachers and leaders in numerous ways: in-depth unit training sessions, demo lessons, moderating writing and planning target interventions. She is very skilled at identifying needs and planning clear and achievable actions to support progress, both of children, teachers and support staff. She is passionate about developing core literacy skills in young people and works tirelessly to achieve incredible results. We are very grateful to her and thankful for her expertise.

DPiL is a fantastic teaching programme for primary-aged pupils. The units of work are engaging, inclusive and provide clear progression across year groups and key stages. The range of drama-based activities and written outcomes undoubtedly captivate the children's imaginations. The SPaG lessons are planned and structured with impact, allowing access for all pupils. The significant progress and attainment of pupils as a result of implementing DPiL in the classroom is evident.

Nina Birch's DPiL training has without question brought 'dramatic' improvements to the quality of teaching at JKPS and in turn the quality of our writing outcomes has improved across the school.

As a head, its great to know that when our teachers attend her training, they return confident, not only to teach that unit through drama, but also with a deeper subject knowledge of the English curriculum.

The DPiL programme has totally transformed how we teach writing at Redriff. The drama into writing element provides the children with the depth of knowledge and understanding to develop rich quality writing alongside developing their love and passion for writing. Over the number of years we have now been working with Nina we have been able to refine our teaching across the school. Nina is able to support our teachers to adapt planning to the needs of our children, including our bespoke literacy interventions. She has been fundamental in supporting the delivery of a whole literacy package from phonics, spelling, grammar and reading- providing training and support regularly.

Our school has worked with Nina for many years. Nina’s training is inspirational. Staff return excited and equipped with the resources to deliver high quality literacy programmes, which children thoroughly enjoy and raises standards across the school.

We have been teaching Nina's Dramatic Improvement in Literacy units since 2008. Every year, Nina improves the quality and content of the units which makes it fun, enjoyable and easier to teach. She also adds extra lessons to support teachers pedagogy and delivery. Lessons are well scaffolded and she always encourages opportunities for the more able to be stretched. All of our children love her units and look forward to them. They link in extremely well with our topics and there are often cross-curricular opportunities of learning for a broad education. The face to face training is invaluable and gives you an in depth and thorough understanding of the unit to come!

Due to the excitement children have for the units and the detailed training and plans given to teachers, we have experienced high scores in writing throughout the year groups and strong SATs results.
